Archaeology Day Camp
Tuesday and Wednesday August 2 & 3, 2011
Thanks for your interest in our Archaeology Day Camp. The two day camp begins at Glendower Historic Mansion, 105 Cincinnati Ave, Lebanon. There the students will receive an introduction to archaeology studies and learn about field work, first with a simulated dig and then with an actual field dig beginning with a high tech computer survey, mapping the site and actually digging.
Day two begins with a field trip to Ft. Ancient historic site and a review of the recent findings their by Director, Jack Blosser. Students will tour the new dig sites at Ft. Ancient and learn how modern archaeology methods have changed the scholar’s thinking about Ft. Ancient. The camp ends with a review of the findings from the level three dig at the old Shaker North Family site, now housed in the Warren County History Center, 105 S. Broadway, Lebanon.
Both Glendower and the Warren County History Center are owned by the Warren County Historical Society. Jessica Thress, Assistant Curator and Archaeologist in Residence at the Warren County Historical Society will lead the camp assisted by Dr. Jarrod Burks and Lynley Culpepper, MA.
