What You'll Find:
Built in 1795, the Beedle Log Cabin is the oldest house in Warren County. Also the oldest standing structure in Warren County, it was relocated and restored to it's current site, next to Harmon Museum, in 2020. This cabin is the last of the Beedle Station settlement (established in 1795) and was the first Shaker meeting place west of the Allegheny Mountains (April 19, 1805). On the restored cabin, you'll find two sides displaying exposed beams and chinking. This may be the look that comes to mind and often associated with the term "log cabin," however, it was never meant to remain uncovered. Exposed to the elements, the logs would rot and the chinking would deteriorate and crumble. Protection from the elements is exactly why we've chosen to install siding on the other two sides of the cabin. Wooden siding was often added to protect the structure as well as make the cabins look affluent. The invention of the circular saw, by the Shakers in 1840, made this look more affordable. (side note: several of the Beedles joined the Shakers, causing a rift in the family). Please come to the Main Office, in Harmon Museum, to check in. Children under age 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
