In Honor & Remembrance

In May of 2016, the Warren County Historical Society was the recipient of a History Fund Grant for our Veterans Oral History Project. Our mission was to collect these stories, record them and preserve them for future generations to hear and read. Assistant Director Jeanne Doan and Historian John Zimkus had conversations with over 35 veterans ranging in age from 27 to 96, covering wars and conflicts from all over the world, from World War II to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Narratives like that of the young soldier, who was basically a kid, from Kentucky who followed General Patton’s division putting up telephone poles and lines.  A young draftee who was ordered to shoot anything that moved in the jungles of Vietnam and a female reservist who became a payload master on a C-141 and will again be a payload master on future missions on a C-17.These are just a few of the fascinating accounts we have collected from our Warren County veterans.

We here at Warren County Historical Society would sincerely like to thank these brave men and women for the time taken to interview and for sharing their important stories as well as their service to our country. Below, you will find the collection of historic accounts, told first-hand, preserving the legacy for future generations.
